oh and for those of you who havent been updated with the louis vuitton x takashi murakami collaboration collection of limited edition handbags and petite leather goodies ($875~925). here you are. takashi murakami's retrospective collection is being exhibited at L.A's MoCA so if you're in that area you should check it out. and if you do, let me know how it is because i would love to go!!!!! its happening from october 29th through february 11th. heads up because this is the first for an american museum to exhibit his holiness.
this is how Murakami's exhibit is going to be appearing at MoCA. i think its hilarious that it is going to be a shop in a museum. this is a non-profit museum so they get no cut of his sales or or space rental fee from vuitton. sweeeet. supertouch blog writes: MOCA Chief Curator Paul Schimmel in an effort to highlight the inherently commercial aspect of Murakami’s work, as expressed by his personal “Superflat” manifesto. In the eyes of Schimmel, it seems, the act of viewers buying Murakami’s bags in the midst of a formal museum exhibition helps “break down the boundaries between low and high art” (a key concept of Murakami’s philosophy) and allows the viewer to interact with the artist’s work firsthand.
